AK-47 is a strain with a strong lineage that may have begun in the post-war 1970s as the Thai and Afghanistan cross. However, AK-47 itself did not come into existence until 1992. The strain underwent a rework in 1999 so that plants could produce uniform seeds.

Four strains were used to create AK-47: Colombia (Sativa), Mexico (Sativa), Thai (Sativa) and Afghanistan (Indica). Genetically speaking, AK-47 is sixty-five percent Sativa and thirty-five percent Indica. Its THC levels stay close to average. Its CBDs and CBNs, however, can be as high as 1.5%.

AK-47 plants are fairly tall and wide with large calyxes. The buds are dark yellowish-green with lots of crystals (trichromes) and fine red hairs. Many choose to grow AK-47 indoors in either soil or hydro, but it can be grown outside in a mild climate. Ideally, temperatures should be kept below seventy-five degrees Fahrenheit. If grown at seventy-five degrees, the plants will produce the same yield, but the buds will open and become fluffy. The strain flowers for eight to nine weeks. If grown outdoors, plants are ready for harvest in the middle of October. Under reasonable conditions, AK-47 plants can yield between 350 and 500 grams per square meter.

SMELL, TASTE AND EFFECT OF AK-47

AK-47 produces dark, very juicy and compact buds with an intense, spicy skunk-like aroma. You can smell hints of pine, sandalwood and some lighter citrus tones. Her smoke has a robust, strong and refreshing citrus flavor with some deeper skunk undertones.

The effect of AK-47, although very powerful, is relaxing and mellow.

AK-47 delivers a steady and long-lasting cerebral buzz that keeps you mentally alert and engaged in creative or social activities. Its high is nicely balanced and can relax and energize at the same time.

This is a strain that can help relieve anxiety, depression, chronic pains and stress. They don’t call it a “one hit wonder” without a reason. Its high can be very powerful so that less experienced users should take it slow when they meet AK-47 for their first time.

HOW TO GROW AK-47

Its outstanding high and good yields make her also the favorite of many cannabis growers. Yet, her beauty and exceptionally aromatic buds come at a price.

It is one of the most intensively smelling and odourful plants to grow. Growers of the strain will need to take good care of odour control and want adequate air circulation. With her juicy and very resinous buds, she’s also more prone to mold as compared to some other strains.

Aside from that, she’s easy to grow. It will only reach a medium height so that it is suitable for many types of grows. It can grow well if grown in soil or hydroponically.

Although she will also grow outdoors, she prefers a milder climate. With temperatures above 25°C, AK-47 will still give the same yield of up to 500g/m², but her buds become less dense and somewhat fluffy. This is the reason why most growers like to grow her indoors in a controlled setting.
